Lovely Lutes for June

The next concert on Sunday 29 June 2025 with Steve Graham in St Mary’s Church, Main Road, Westonzoyland, TA7 0EP. The concert starts at 3 pm and refreshments are available at modest charge from 2.15 pm.

Steve Graham started his musical life as a classical guitarist but gradually became enticed by the beauty and rich repertoire of the lute.
The lute flourished in European music between 1500 and 1750 and during this time underwent many changes, particularly in the number of strings.
In addition to the solo music, the lute offers many opportunities for ensemble playing and Steve has enjoyed working with several groups specializing in Mediaeval, Renaissance and Baroque music as well as accompanying solo singers, notably soprano Mary Morgan with whom he has previously enjoyed performing at Westonzoyland.
On this occasion he will demonstrate several lutes and related instruments from his collection and perform music from across the continent and, particularly, from the Golden Age of English music during the reign of Elizabeth the First.
The instruments will include: lutes, vihuela, orpharion, guitars and theorbo.
